DRUG RESISTANCE EDUCATION:
DAIRRC has conceived, developed and executed a specific intervention strategy targeted at school children in the sixth standard. This program is based on the fact that merely making students aware of the dangers of drug abuse is not enough to deter them from fatal experimentation with substances of abuse.
Every year the DRUG RESISTANCE EDUCATION program reaches out to over 6000 school children, imparted by 100 trained volunteers. This project was initiated in 1992, with a 100% grant from The Commission of The European Communities. The grant was subsequently continued by The Commission of The European Communities for a further two years under Project Number D-IID- 90/44B.
This project entails an annual expenditure of Rs 650,000 ( Rupees six hundred and fifty thousand only).
CONFERENCES/ SEMINARS/ WORKSHOPS ON SUBSTANCE ABUSE & HIV:
DAIRRC in association with United Nations AIDS, United Nations Drug Control Programme, National AIDS Control Programme and the Ministry of Health of the Government of India, organised Hope 2000, an International Conference on HIV and Substance Abuse Prevention and Control. The conference was held at the Taj President Hotel, Mumbai on 7th, 8th and 9th November 2000

STREET CORNER MEETINGS FOR DRUGS & HIV AWARENESS:
DAIRRC has, since 1985, organised direct communication with slum and pavement dwellers in Mumbai city and it's peripheral townships. Mumbai has a population of 12.5 million. Of these, 55% live in slums or on the pavements. Lack of organised activity amongst this population coupled with illiteracy, makes this target group unable to be reached easily. A direct communication on AIDS & DRUGS is possible with street corner meetings. D.A.I.R.R.C. has conducted 2100 meetings ( on Substance Abuse) and 64 meetings( for HIV awareness). Meetings for the perod 1993 - 1996 were sponsored by The Commission of The European Communities.
